Australia’s Diesel Phase-Out: Without Trucks, Australia Stops

Updated: Nov 14

"Empty Australian highway with 'Without Trucks Australia Stops' sign – diesel phase-out risks vs Goshen Lake, Thailand’s First Christian Estate sanctuary 2025"

Australia’s economy relies heavily on trucks, which deliver goods, fuel, and food. The sign "Without Trucks Australia Stops" is a stark reminder of this truth.

Yet, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s Labor government and the Greens are pushing to phase out diesel, the backbone of long-haul transport, in a bold move that could grind the nation to a halt.

This policy, part of a $1.1 billion Cleaner Fuels Program, aims to replace diesel with low-carbon alternatives, such as canola oil-based fuels. However, critics warn that it will raise costs and disrupt supply chains. Australia is being destroyed from the inside: housing shortages, gas bans in new homes, egg shortages from chicken culling, and taxes pushing citizens to poverty. It’s not a Goshen—a biblical haven of peace and abundance—for investors, freedom-seekers, Christians, locals, digital nomads, families, or expats.

At Goshen Lake, Thailand’s First Christian Estate, we’re building a self-sufficient sanctuary with a church and 70 homes. Discover why Australia’s diesel plan spells trouble.

The Diesel Phase-Out: A Risky Bet on Green Fuels

Albanese’s plan, announced in September 2025, invests $1.1 billion over 10 years to produce low-carbon liquid fuels from canola, sorghum, sugar, and waste, targeting hard-to-decarbonize sectors like trucks and aviation. Diesel and petrol could be phased out entirely, aligning with net-zero goals by 2050. But without trucks, Australia stops: 70% of freight relies on diesel trucks, transporting $1 trillion in goods annually.

The sign "Without Trucks Australia Stops" is a campaign by the trucking industry, highlighting that trucks deliver 99% of Australia’s domestic freight. Phasing out diesel risks shortages, higher prices, and economic chaos, especially as EV trucks are years away for heavy haulage.

Australia’s Self-Destruction: Gas Bans, Egg Shortages, and Taxes

Australia’s woes compound the diesel risk:

  • Gas Bans: Victoria banned gas in new homes from 2024, with Sydney following in 2027, forcing all-electric builds. This leaves households reliant on a coal-heavy grid, raising costs amid shortages.

  • Egg Shortages: Bird flu culls killed 2.4 million hens in 2025, causing ongoing shortages and price hikes (up 25% since 2010). Supermarkets limit purchases, as production lags until 2028.

  • High Taxes: Combined VAT (10%) and income tax (up to 45%) push effective rates to 55%, with bracket creep adding 18% to average wages since 2000. Poverty affects 14.2% of Australians, the highest since 2001.

These policies destroy from within, far from a Goshen’s prosperity.

Why Australia Isn’t a Goshen

Lush green landscape with large rocky islands rising from a calm sea under a bright blue sky with fluffy clouds. Tranquil and scenic view.
Seek a True Haven

Albanese’s diesel phase-out, gas bans, and tax burdens make Australia vulnerable, not a sanctuary.

Trucking disruptions could halt food and fuel delivery, exacerbating shortages.

For Christians and families, this instability clashes with Goshen’s peace.
