Is Norway a Safe Goshen for the Last Days?

Norway’s Beauty Hides a High Cost for Freedom-Seekers

Mountain landscape with a blue fjord, lush green hills, and a small village in the foreground under a clear blue sky.

Norway’s stunning landscapes, fresh seafood, and high quality of life make it a dream for relocation. Houses with panoramic views cost $800,000 to $1 million outside cities, and the fish soup ranks among the world’s best. But is Norway a Goshen—a biblical haven of peace and liberty—for Christians, freedom-seekers, investors, locals, digital nomads, families, and expats? High taxes, socialist policies, and geopolitical risks say no.

At Goshen Lake, Thailand’s First Christian Estate, we’re building a sanctuary with a church and 70 homes where freedom and faith thrive. Explore why Norway falls short.

Norway’s Allure: Wealth from Oil and Nature

Norway’s oil discoveries in the 1960s and geothermal energy have made it one of the richest nations per capita, with a GDP per capita of $106,149 in 2025. The country’s beauty, from fjords to northern lights, draws expats and digital nomads. However, this wealth funds a socialist system that burdens residents.

High Taxes: 75% Burden on Income and Goods

Norway’s 25% VAT tax on most goods funds socialism, with locals paying full price while foreigners reclaim 19%, still losing 6%. Combined with income taxes up to 50%, it totals 75% of earnings for many. This high burden supports "saving the planet," but leaves little for families and investors.

Solar panels, meant to cut costs, charge owners for excess generation due to "distribution fees". In a country where 65% belong to the Church of Norway, this "green religion" overshadows traditional faith, with church attendance at just 2% weekly.

Geopolitical Risks: A Target in the Last Days

Norway’s strong support for Ukraine, including $2.1 billion in military aid in 2025, makes it a potential target for Russia. As a NATO member, Norway’s High North is a flashpoint, with Russian exercises near its borders. Denmark and Norway are introducing F-35s, and Finland will receive its first in 2026, signaling rising tensions.

Once Christian under King Olaf II, who established Norway as a Christian nation in 1030, the country now prioritizes climate goals over faith. A 2025 State Department report notes religious freedom but highlights a decline in Lutheran membership from 64.9% in 2021 to 60.2% in 2025.

Final Thoughts

Norway is a beautiful place to visit, but not a safe Goshen for the last days. High taxes, green mandates, and war risks make it unsuitable for freedom-seekers, investors, Christians, locals, nomads, families, or expats. Seek a sanctuary of liberty and faith. Join Goshen Lake, Thailand’s First Christian Estate, where prosperity and peace prevail.
